Introduction - Please Read Carefully

*NEW* Thanks everyone for participating in Beta Phase 1 from February 1 - 6, 2018! We feel it was a great success and are super thankful for the feedback we received. As you now know, we had some email server problems so not all of you were able to participate to the extent you (or we) would have liked. So, we've extended Beta Phase 1 to run through February 13th! 

Much of the info below is the same as before, so we'll leave it for anyone who hasn't seen it yet. This includes known bugs/issues, which we will keep updated in real time.

Remember - everyone needs to download the new Bookie build, for either Mac or PC.

Congratulations on being one of the limited few selected for Beta Phase 1 testing of Bookie, the sports betting exchange built on the Peerplays blockchain! Beta Phase 1 testing will run from Thursday, February 1, until Tuesday, February 6, 2018. 

During this period, we encourage you to be as active as possible within the DApp (that's a Decentralized Application, if you didn't know). Of course you should bet on the games that interest you the most, but don't be afraid to place a few bets on games that don't interest you. Remember, this is all in the name of research. You can't hurt or break anything, and the money isn't real. 

This feels like a good time to remind everyone: All Bitcoin (BTC, mBTC) used during Beta Phase 1 is not real Bitcoin! It's very important that you do not attempt to deposit any Bitcoin or other cryptocurrency into Bookie, and that you do not attempt to withdraw any, either.

Below you will find further instructions on how to download and install Bookie, how to provide your feedback (including a feedback guideline to get you started), and some Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ). If you run into any problems installing Bookie on your computer, please send an email to beta-bookie@peerplays.com and we'll try to help as quickly as possible.

But first...

A few rules and reminders:

  • The version of Bookie you are using is not the final version - it is an early beta version.
  • Visual design of the app will also change before launch. Please do not take or post any screenshots of Bookie.
  • If you have trouble installing Bookie or if you find something that we should know about immediately, please contact us via the email provided above.
  • It was mentioned already, but worth saying again: This is not real Bitcoin! Please don't attempt to withdraw (or deposit) any funds.
  • We don't recommend discussing your experience with other beta testers during the Beta Phase 1 period as it may influence or skew feedback (in both positive and negative ways). 

Lastly, don't forget to have fun! We've given everyone a full (but not real) Bitcoin to bet with.

To encourage as much as activity as possible, we're giving two Peerplays hoodies! One to the individual with the most activity, and one to the individual with the most Bitcoin in their account at the end of the testing period!

Installing the application

Select the link below that corresponds with your operating system.

Once the application download is complete, launch the application as an administrator and follow the standard installation instructions.

Additional permissions may be required to launch the application.

You may encounter an error stating the connection to the blockchain has been lost. This is expected as we are currently utilizing a single node for beta testing purposes. Simply select 'Try Again' until successfully connected.

Logging In

For Beta Phase 1 testing, we have included an Account Name and Password in the welcome email we sent you. Input this information into the login page and click 'Log In.' The account has been pre-loaded with 1 BTC.

There is a transaction fee of 0.01 mBTC to place and edit a bet. There is no transaction fee involved in canceling an unmatched bet.
These transaction fees are, obviously, denominated in "play" BTC.

Events and Markets

The following Events will be available to bet on. Please note that all game times within Bookie are listed in UTC. 

  • Ten English Premier League matches
    • Match Odds (Moneyline) markets for each match
  • One selected NBA match per day
    • Moneyline markets for each match

After you've placed your final bet - hopefully a winner! - please take a few minutes to fill out this Feedback Survey. This is why you signed up to be a beta tester; your observations and suggestions are what will make Bookie even better. 

We urge you to be as thorough as you can, but please note that we are already aware of the following areas of incomplete functionality:

Known Bugs & Issues

There are some areas of incomplete functionality in this early beta version of the app:

  • Intra-market exposure calculations involving interactions between multiple bets not yet implemented;
  • In-play functionality not enabled in this beta. As such, betting In-Play (during event) is possible but it will not differ functionally from pre-event betting;
  • "My Bets" and "Transaction History" are 95% complete but require some fine-tuning as regards display/formatting of records;
  • FAQ is in the process of fine tuning, we are looking forward to your feedback on how we can improve it; 
  • FAQ window placement will be adjusted;
  • Unchecked notifications will be removed if user logs out;
  • Still tinkering with the place bet button calculation; 
  • Reported issues of being unable to select different options on the setting page; 
  • Discrepancy in event times - time zone calculations still being worked on;
  • Transaction fees: requires better presentation to user in betslip;
  • Increasing odds using up/down arrows in betslip sometimes exhibits undesired behavior;
  • Blockchain connection error can lead to loop;
  • Delay in displaying the placed betslip in the exchange;  
  • Some discrepancies in bet slip totals; 
  • Bet placement levies an unnecessary 0.01 BTC charge;
  • Using Lay All or Back All buttons sometimes creates a 'phantom' bet that cannot successfully be submitted by the user;
  • If connection between Bookie app and Peerplays blockchain drops, successful bet placement not shown on bet slip/orderbook (although bets ARE successfully placed and can be viewed by restarting the app)
  • Unmatched bets no longer displaying after 24 hours.
